I’m Colleen Suchecki, and I’m a recovering reality TV junkie. I just admitted it publicly. Throughout my 20s and early 30s, I would waste hours and hours of time watching Reality TV shows every night. I would get so caught up in all of the drama. One of my all time favorites was The Real World dating back into the late 90s early 2000s. I practically lived for that show. Yes, I realize how pathetic that sounds! But I know there are some of you out there that can relate to your own guilty trash TV show.

Looking back, even though I was entertained, I would go to bed feeling drained. I noticed that I would have unrealistic expectations of relationships and life in general. I would want to create my own drama. All really unhealthy side effects from what I was constantly exposing myself to.

Think about watching the news, 90% of the news is all negative or portrayed in a negative manner. There is RARELY ever a story of inspiration or of good deeds. It mainly plays off of fear and what a horrible place the world is. I am not trying to start a debate here, but think about what you are exposing yourself to on a daily basis! It really effects your well-being!

Toxic exposure can come in the form of what you watch on TV, a relationships or friendship that is draining, and what you put in your body. The point is to ask yourself are these things serving you? Is this TV show, relationship, or food for your greater good? Is it contributing to your growth or death?

This is not to say that I don’t ever watch TV anymore, but it is significantly limited and purposeful! I now choose to fill that time with really hanging out with my husband (not just sitting in front of the TV like a zombie), reading a great book, or listening to an empowering training online. Things have really changed and I can feel how much healthier and happier I am for it.

Exercise
Ask yourself if there is something toxic in your life that it is time to get rid of or replace? Is it a TV show? Friendship? Relationship? Food? Choose something that you can replace it with that will contribute to your growth.

Affirmation
I have the strength and courage to let go of that which is not serving me.

Make it an OUTSTANDING week! It’s YOUR choice!
